Primary SEND Teaching Assistant - Full Academic Year
Start Date: September 2025
Location: Derby
Contract: Term time only (39 weeks) - Monday to Friday, approx. 8:30-15:30
Salary: Competitive daily rate from £90-£110 via PAYE
About the Role
We're looking for a passionate and proactive Primary SEND Teaching Assistant to support a welcoming primary school in Derby from September 2025. This full-year role involves working closely with pupils who have special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language challenges, SEMH, and moderate learning difficulties.
You'll work alongside class teachers, the SENCO, and external specialists to deliver tailored interventions, adapt learning materials, and contribute to pupil progress reviews and EHCP meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
- Adapt resources to meet individual learning needs
- Implement targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy, and SEMH
- Support positive behaviour strategies and classroom routines
- Track pupil progress and contribute to SEN reviews
- Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and staff
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience supporting primary-aged pupils, ideally with SEND
- Level 2/3 TA qualification or equivalent
- Excellent communication, empathy, and adaptability
- Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare
Desirable:
- Experience with phonics, SEMH, or speech & language interventions
- Familiarity with EHCPs and working with SENCOs
- Training in trauma-informed or behaviour support approaches
