We are seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to join our new Specialist Satellite Provision supporting Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils with SEND and SEMH needs. This is an exciting opportunity to help children develop resilience, emotional literacy, and positive relationships while building a strong foundation for learning.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group emotional support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.

  • Help pupils manage behaviour and emotions, using trauma-informed, restorative, and nurturing strategies.

  • Develop trust and strong relationships with children, becoming a consistent and positive adult in their school lives.

  • Support attendance, engagement, and inclusion, helping pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

  • Work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, and the SENDCo to implement behaviour plans, individual strategies, and pastoral interventions.

  • Promote wellbeing and safeguarding, acting as a point of contact for pupils' emotional needs and concerns.

  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient

  • Skilled at building strong, trusting relationships with children

  • Experienced supporting pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs

  • Able to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviours

  • Committed to teamwork and working closely with staff, families, and external agencies

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with children with SEN and/or SEMH needs (in schools, PRUs, alternative provision, or similar settings)

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, restorative, and nurturing approaches

  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills

  • Awareness of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Desirable (But Not Essential)

  • Qualifications in Pastoral Support, Counselling, Youth Work, or Mental Health

  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling strategies

  • Experience working with pupils with EHCPs or personalised behaviour support plans
