Psychology Graduate
Overview:
An exciting opportunity for a Psychology graduate to gain hands-on experience working with children and young people with complex learning needs, social, emotional, and communication difficulties. This role offers valuable practical experience for anyone considering a career in educational psychology, clinical psychology, speech and language therapy, or other child development professions.
What You'll Be Doing
Supporting students with a range of complex learning, communication, and behavioural needs.
Working closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individual education and behaviour plans (IEPs).
Collaborating with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and other multi-disciplinary professionals.
Delivering targeted interventions to develop emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction skills.
Supporting classroom teachers in adapting materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Observing, recording, and analysing pupil progress and behaviour patterns.
Promoting positive mental health, emotional wellbeing, and resilience among students.
Skills and Experience You'll Gain
Practical understanding of autism spectrum conditions (ASC), ADHD, sensory processing differences, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Experience applying psychological theory in real-world educational settings.
Skills in behaviour analysis, data collection, and progress tracking.
Exposure to therapeutic and communication approaches, such as PECS, Makaton, TEACCH, and zones of regulation.
Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team supporting holistic child development.
Strong skills in empathy, patience, active listening, and emotional regulation.
Opportunities to develop report writing and reflective practice-key foundations for future training in Educational or Clinical Psychology.
Insight into trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support.
What you'll need:
- Psychology Degree
- Experience working with learning difficulties or vulnerable people (desirable)
