Psychology Graduate

Overview:
An exciting opportunity for a Psychology graduate to gain hands-on experience working with children and young people with complex learning needs, social, emotional, and communication difficulties. This role offers valuable practical experience for anyone considering a career in educational psychology, clinical psychology, speech and language therapy, or other child development professions.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting students with a range of complex learning, communication, and behavioural needs.

  • Working closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individual education and behaviour plans (IEPs).

  • Collaborating with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and other multi-disciplinary professionals.

  • Delivering targeted interventions to develop emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction skills.

  • Supporting classroom teachers in adapting materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Observing, recording, and analysing pupil progress and behaviour patterns.

  • Promoting positive mental health, emotional wellbeing, and resilience among students.


Skills and Experience You'll Gain

  • Practical understanding of autism spectrum conditions (ASC), ADHD, sensory processing differences, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

  • Experience applying psychological theory in real-world educational settings.

  • Skills in behaviour analysis, data collection, and progress tracking.

  • Exposure to therapeutic and communication approaches, such as PECS, Makaton, TEACCH, and zones of regulation.

  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team supporting holistic child development.

  • Strong skills in empathy, patience, active listening, and emotional regulation.

  • Opportunities to develop report writing and reflective practice-key foundations for future training in Educational or Clinical Psychology.

  • Insight into trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support.

What you'll need:

  • Psychology Degree
  • Experience working with learning difficulties or vulnerable people (desirable)
