Librarian - Secondary School - Barnet - Immediate/ASAP Start - Full-Time

Tradewind Recruitment are supporting welcoming and well-run secondary schools in Barnet who are seeking Librarians to join their teams on a full-time, long-term basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with students and managing a vibrant, busy school library.

Librarian - Role Overview

As the School Librarian, you will play an essential role in supporting learning, literacy, and independent study. Duties include:

  • Managing the day-to-day running of the school library.

  • Supporting students with research, reading choices, and independent study.

  • Issuing, returning, and cataloguing books and resources.

  • Maintaining an organised, welcoming library environment.

  • Promoting reading through displays, clubs, events, and literacy initiatives.

  • Managing stock levels, ordering new resources, and maintaining the library catalogue.

  • Providing support to teaching staff for research and curriculum resources.

  • Supervising students in the library during break, lunch, and study periods.

  • Ensuring all information is handled confidentially and in line with school policies.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a library, education, or admin role (school library experience desirable).

  • Strong organisation and record-keeping skills.

  • Excellent communication and ability to engage positively with young people.

  • Confident using library systems, databases, or willing to learn.

  • A proactive, calm, and supportive attitude.

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
