1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Role Overview (Brent)
As a 1:1 SEN TA, you will work closely with a single student who requires additional support to access learning and succeed in the classroom. This is an ideal opportunity for graduates who are passionate about child development, inclusion, and supporting students with diverse needs. Your duties will include:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a student with SEN (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, SEMH needs).
Helping the student engage with classwork, follow routines, and build confidence.
Implementing strategies outlined by the SENCO, teacher, and external professionals.
Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social interaction.
Breaking down learning tasks and adapting materials to meet the student's needs.
Encouraging independence, resilience, and positive learning habits.
Monitoring, recording, and reporting the student's progress and behaviour.
Assisting with general classroom duties when appropriate.
Building a supportive, trusting relationship with the student to enable consistent progress.
Requirements
A degree in any subject (Psychology or related subjects advantageous).
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
Strong communication, empathy, and patience.
Ability to build rapport and maintain consistent, positive boundaries.
A proactive, flexible, and caring approach.
Previous experience working with children, SEN, or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential.
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
