Job Description

English Teacher - SEN (SEMH / ASC)
January Start | Small Group Teaching

Tradewind Recruitment is working with several specialist SEN provisions to recruit English Teachers from early January. These settings support pupils with SEMH and ASC needs and offer highly structured, nurturing environments with small teaching groups of up to 10 pupils.

The role will involve teaching English across KS3 and KS4. At KS4, you will support learners working towards GCSE English, while KS3 pupils may present with significant academic delays. As such, these roles may particularly suit a primary-trained practitioner or a secondary teacher confident delivering a more differentiated, skills-based curriculum.

Pupils are often anxious learners who may display challenging behaviour linked to emotional regulation, trauma, or communication needs. Staff are expected to use trauma-informed, relational approaches, with a strong emphasis on consistency, predictability, and de-escalation.

The role may include:

  • Delivering adapted English lessons aligned to EHCP outcomes
  • Teaching GCSE English to KS4 cohorts
  • Supporting KS3 learners working significantly below age-related expectations
  • Working closely with support staff to maintain calm, regulated learning environments
  • Managing behaviour through positive relationships and clear boundaries

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status or relevant teaching experience
  • Experience working with SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision
  • Confidence teaching English at GCSE and/or KS3 level
  • A calm, resilient, and reflective approach to behaviour
  • Flexibility to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs
