Teaching Assistant (Autism)

SANZA Teaching Agency are seeking an experienced teaching assistant for a primary school in Newham. The school has a provision for students aged from reception to year 6 with Autism.
The students have high needs- most are non- verbal and some require personal care (help with toileting etc). They can display challenging behaviour.
As a teaching assistant supporting with Autism, you will:
- Provide daily support to students with Autism
- Facilitate the child's communication and language development through alternative communication methods
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher and the SENCO to plan and adapt activities to meet the pupil's specific needs
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for the pupil, promoting their social integration with peers
- Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, providing regular feedback on the child's progress
Requirements:
- Relevant experience supporting children with Autism
- Understanding of pre-verbal communication methods and strategies
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and the ability to adapt them to meet individual needs
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents
