Job Description

SEN Learning Support Assistants - Specialist Provision
Full-time & part-time opportunities | Immediate & ongoing roles

Tradewind Recruitment are working in partnership with a highly regarded specialist provision in South Gloucestershire to recruit experienced and passionate SEN Learning Support Assistants.

This setting supports children and young people with complex additional needs and is seeking LSAs who are committed to making a meaningful difference every day.

About the pupils

Students within this provision present with a range of severe and complex needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Communication and interaction needs, including non-verbal pupils
  • Sensory Processing Differences (SPD)
  • Emotional regulation and behaviour that can challenge

Pupils may communicate through PECS, symbols, Makaton, visual timetables or sensory cues. Some learners require personal care, structured routines and a high level of consistency to feel safe and regulated.

Behaviour is always understood as communication, and staff are trained to respond with calm, empathy and positive behaviour support strategies.

The role

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support, tailored to individual EHCPs
  • Support learning through sensory-based, practical and play-led approaches
  • Help pupils develop communication, independence and life skills
  • Promote emotional regulation using clear structure, boundaries and routines
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and senior staff to ensure holistic support
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment

The ideal candidate

This school is looking for LSAs who demonstrate:

  • Strong SEN experience (school, specialist provision, care or similar settings)
  • A deep understanding of autism and complex needs
  • Patience, emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Confidence supporting behaviour that can challenge in a positive, proactive way
  • Excellent communication skills and a reflective, team-focused approach
  • A genuine passion for SEN and inclusive education

Personal care experience is desirable but not essential - full training is provided but willingness to develop.

What the school looks for in its workforce

This provision prides itself on a workforce that is:

  • Child-centred and values-led
  • Calm, consistent and emotionally intelligent
  • Willing to learn, reflect and engage in ongoing training
  • Collaborative, supportive and professional
  • Committed to safeguarding, dignity and high expectations for every pupil

Staff are valued, well-supported and encouraged to grow within their roles.
