Job Description

English Graduates: Make an Impact in Whitehaven Schools

Role: Graduate Cover Supervisor / Literacy Specialist

Location: Secondary Schools - Whitehaven & West Cumbria

Pay: £90 - £120 per day

Schedule: Full-Time & Part-Time Roles Available | Monday - Friday (Term Time)

The Opportunity

Are you an English Graduate with a passion for communication and a desire to work with young people? We are looking for articulate, resilient, and confident individuals to join our team in Whitehaven.

This is a perfect role for those who want to gain classroom experience and share their love of language without the workload of a permanent teaching post. Whether you want a consistent 5-day week or flexible part-time days, we have opportunities to suit you.

The "No Prep" Advantage

We know that English teachers usually face hours of marking essays. This role removes that burden entirely:

  • No Planning: All lesson materials and resources are provided. You simply step in and lead the session.

  • No Marking: Your responsibility ends when the bell rings. No taking home stacks of books to grade.

  • No Admin: Forget data entry or late-night prep; your focus is purely on student engagement during school hours.

Confidence in the Classroom

We are looking for graduates who can command a room with their personality and communication skills.

  • Assertive Presence: You must be confident to manage behaviour effectively, using a calm and authoritative approach to maintain a productive learning environment.

  • Engaging Communication: Use your background in English to bring pre-set lessons to life, helping students understand instructions and stay on task.

  • Resilience: You'll need the "presence" to lead diverse groups of students, ensuring a respectful and safe atmosphere at all times.

Why Choose This Path?

  • Full-Time Stability or Part-Time Flexibility: Secure steady work or keep your schedule open for writing, further study, or other projects.

  • West Cumbria Impact: Support schools in the Whitehaven community where strong role models in literacy are highly valued.

  • Great Pay: Competitive daily rates (£90-£130) paid weekly.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A University Degree in English Literature, Creative Writing, Linguistics, or a related Humanities field.

  • High levels of confidence in managing group dynamics and student behaviour.

  • A reliable, professional approach and a genuine interest in supporting the Whitehaven community.
