Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an experienced and dedicated Male Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and well-resourced school in South Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate professional to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people with complex needs.

You will be working within a specialist SEN environment supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. A male Learning Support Assistant is specifically sought to meet the pastoral and safeguarding needs of the student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs
  • Implement and follow individual Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans and personalised support strategies
  • Deploy proactive and de-escalation-based behaviour management techniques to manage and reduce challenging behaviour
  • Act as a positive, stable, and consistent male role model for students
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and the wider pastoral team
  • Build trusting, professional relationships with pupils in order to promote engagement and wellbeing
  • Support pupils with social communication and emotional regulation
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, incidents, and interventions
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Assist with personal care and physical support where required and appropriate

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people with Autism (ASD/ASC)
  • Experience supporting pupils with ADHD in an educational or care setting
  • Demonstrable understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed approaches
  • Strong, proven behaviour management skills with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively
  • Experience managing challenging or complex behaviours with patience and professionalism
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building positive rapport with students
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Desirable criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE, or equivalent
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent positive handling / physical intervention training
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication frameworks
  • Experience within a specialist SEN school, SEMH provision, or PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)
  • First Aid qualification
