Job Description
Support Worker - PMLD Specialist School
Location: Preston
Tradewind are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and reliable Support Worker to join a specialist SEN school in Preston. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), where providing a sensory-rich and dignified environment is at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
In this position, you will provide essential 1:1 and small-group support tailored to the complex physical and sensory needs of our pupils. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include assisting with personal care, mobility, and feeding, while always ensuring the dignity and wellbeing of every child.
You will work closely with the class teacher to deliver sensory-based activities and assist with physiotherapy or occupational therapy programmes. A key part of the role involves utilising alternative communication methods-such as PEC's, Makaton, or AAC-to help pupils express themselves, promote their independence, and encourage social engagement within a safe, nurturing setting.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a naturally patient and empathetic individual who is committed to the long-term development of pupils with complex needs. While previous experience with PMLD, SLD, or complex health needs is highly desirable, we warmly welcome applicants from healthcare or general care backgrounds as full training is provided.
The successful candidate will be resilient, maintaining a positive attitude through the physical and emotional demands of a specialist school. You must also hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
