SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Bristol & South Gloucestershire

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils within specialist education provision s across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. These settings support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) with opportunities to work across primary, secondary and post-16 phases.

This is a rewarding role for individuals who are passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils both in the classroom and through structured activities, helping them engage with learning and reach their individual goals.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs
  • Assisting with adapted lessons and personalised learning activities
  • Supporting pupils with communication, social development and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement with learning
  • Working closely with teachers and specialist staff to support each pupil's individual learning plan


About the Setting
These specialist provisions support pupils with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and complex needs. Many pupils also benefit from support with communication, sensory processing and social development.

These settings provide a highly supportive and inclusive learning environment, with small class sizes and a strong focus on personalised support. They offer a flexible curriculum, designed to develop both academic learning and essential life skills, helping pupils build independence and prepare for the next stages of their education and adulthood.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in education, care or support settings
  • A patient, compassionate and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, care or psychology would be advantageous but are not essential

This role would suit SEND specialist Teaching Assistants, mainstream Teaching Assistants, support workers, psychology graduates, sports coaches and youth workers who are looking to build experience within specialist education.
