Job Description
Location: Barnoldswick, Lancashire (BB18)
Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum (FTE)
Contract: Full-Time, Temp-to-Perm
Start Date: ASAP / April 2026
Role Overview
Are you a teacher who believes the best classroom has no walls? We are seeking an innovative Outdoor Education Teacher for a specialized SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) role in Barnoldswick. This is a hybrid position designed for a practitioner who excels in non-traditional environments.
The Weekly Split:
2 Days: Specialised classroom-based teaching (Small group SEMH).
3 Days: Outdoor learning and adventure-based education.
We practice a "Sneaking Teaching" philosophy embedding core literacy, numeracy, and life skills into high-engagement outdoor activities so students learn without the pressure of a traditional desk-bound setting.
Key Responsibilities
Sneaking Teaching: Plan and deliver "stealth learning" where academic objectives are integrated into bushcraft, horticulture, and outdoor survival skills.
SEMH Support: Use the outdoors as a therapeutic tool to support students with complex emotional needs, attachment disorders, and EHCP targets.
Curriculum Delivery: Lead small-group classroom sessions for 2 days a week, focusing on re-engaging "hard-to-reach" learners.
Restorative Practice: Utilise trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to manage behaviour and build resilience.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualified: Holding QTS, QTLS, or a Level 3 Forest School Leadership qualification.
Outdoor Expert: Confident leading sessions in all Lancashire weathers; experienced in risk-benefit assessment.
Resilient: A "firm but fair" approach with the empathy required to support vulnerable young people.
Local: Ideally based in or near the BB18 area (Barnoldswick, Colne, Skipton).
Why Join Our Team?
Temp-to-Perm: A 1-2 day paid trial is available immediately, leading to a permanent contract for the right candidate.
Creative Freedom: We value teachers who think outside the box (and the building).
Competitive Pay: Up to £32k with a clear path for professional development.
How to Apply
Submit your CV today. We are looking to interview and hold trial days sooner rather than later.
