We are delighted to be working in partnership with a welcoming and creative independent primary school in Islington that is seeking a dedicated Year 6 Class Teacher to join their team for a full academic year maternity cover from September 2026 to July 2027.

Key Responsibilities

As a Year 6 Class Teacher, you will take full responsibility for your class and play a key role in preparing pupils for the transition to secondary school. Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering high-quality, engaging lessons in line with the KS2 National Curriculum
  • Preparing pupils for end-of-year expectations, including SATs and 11+ assessments
  • Using assessment effectively to monitor progress, inform planning, and raise attainment
  • Creating a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes independence and resilience
  • Providing strong pastoral care, supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing alongside academic success
  • Maintaining high expectations for behaviour and fostering a positive learning culture
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues as part of the Upper KS2 team
  • Communicating effectively with parents and carers to support pupil progress
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school and maintaining high professional standards

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have strong KS2 teaching experience, ideally within Year 6
  • Be confident in preparing pupils for SATs and 11+ assessments
  • Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons that inspire learners
  • Use data effectively to support progress and close attainment gaps
  • Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and high expectations
  • Provide outstanding pastoral support with a nurturing and empathetic approach
  • Thrive in a collaborative, reflective, and supportive team environment
