Job Description

Science Teacher - SEN (SEMH / ASC)
South Gloucestershire - Flexible Supply & Long-Term Opportunities

Tradewind Recruitment is working with several specialist SEN provisions across South Gloucestershire to recruit Science Teachers. We are offering both flexible supply work and longer-term opportunities to suit your availability and career goals.

These settings support pupils with SEMH and ASC needs and provide highly structured, nurturing environments with small teaching groups of up to 10 pupils.

The role will involve teaching Science across KS3 and KS4. You will support learners working towards GCSE Science, as well as groups that may have significant academic delays. As such, these roles are particularly suited to secondary teachers who are confident delivering a more differentiated, skills-based curriculum.

Pupils are often anxious learners who may display challenging behaviour linked to emotional regulation, trauma, or communication needs. Staff are expected to use trauma-informed, relational approaches, with a strong emphasis on consistency, predictability, and de-escalation.

The role may include:

  • Delivering adapted Science lessons aligned to EHCP outcomes
  • Teaching GCSE Science to mixed cohorts
  • Supporting learners working significantly below age-related expectations
  • Working closely with support staff to maintain calm, regulated learning environments
  • Managing behaviour through positive relationships and clear boundaries

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status or relevant teaching experience
  • Experience working with SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision
  • Confidence teaching Science at GCSE and/or KS3 level
  • A calm, resilient, and reflective approach to behaviour
  • Flexibility to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs
