Functional Skills Tutor - North Yorkshire (Immediate Start Available)

Tradewind Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with North Yorkshire LEA to recruit a committed and adaptable Functional Skills Tutor to deliver English and Maths support across the region, including Northallerton, Ripon, Harrogate, and surrounding areas.

This is a rewarding and flexible opportunity to make a real difference, supporting young people who require additional help to re-engage with education. Many learners may have SEND, SEMH needs, or be looked after, meaning your role will extend beyond teaching-you'll play a key part in rebuilding confidence, re-establishing routines, and inspiring meaningful progress.

What the Role Involves:

  • Delivering Functional Skills English and Maths sessions tailored to individual learners (1:1 or small group)
  • Planning and adapting personalised lessons to meet a wide range of abilities and learning styles
  • Supporting students with additional needs, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
  • Monitoring, assessing, and recording learner progress, with clear and consistent feedback
  • Promoting positive learning behaviours, attendance, and engagement
  • Building strong, supportive relationships with learners, families, and external professionals

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Holds a teaching qualification (QTS desirable) or has relevant tutoring/TA experience
  • Has experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or similar needs
  • Is confident delivering both English and Maths Functional Skills
  • Demonstrates resilience, empathy, and the ability to adapt their approach to suit individual learners
  • Holds an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to obtain one)
