Job Description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Humanities Specialist

Location: Accrington, Lancashire

Contract: Full-Time (5 Days per Week)

Setting: Alternative Provision (AP)

Group Size: Small groups (Maximum 5 pupils)

Are you passionate about making History, Geography, and RE come alive for young people?

We are seeking a dedicated and degree-qualified Humanities HLTA to join a nurturing Alternative Provision in Accrington. This is not a standard classroom role; you will be working with students who have faced barriers to learning in mainstream education, helping them re-engage with the world through the lens of Humanities.

The Role

In this role, you won't just be a "helper"-you will be a leader of learning. You will:

  • Deliver Humanities: Lead and deliver engaging lessons across History, Geography, and Religious Education.

  • Targeted Support: Work with small, focused groups of up to 5 students, allowing for high-impact, personalised instruction.

  • Remove Barriers: Support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or SEND, using a trauma-informed approach.

  • Collaborate: Work 5 days a week as a core part of a multi-disciplinary team to monitor progress and celebrate student success.

What We Are Looking For

  • Academic Background: A Degree-level qualification (Humanities preferred) is essential.

  • Subject Interest: A genuine "fire" for Humanities and the ability to make global issues relevant to our students.

  • Resilience: The ability to remain calm and supportive in a challenging environment.

  • Experience: Previous experience in an AP, PRU, or SEND setting is highly desirable, but a strong heart for student welfare is non-negotiable.

Why Join Us?

  • High Impact: Change the trajectory of a young person's life every single day.

  • Manageable Workload: No 30-student classes; focus your energy on 5 students at a time.

  • Local Community: Based in the heart of Accrington with a supportive, close-knit staff team.
