The Role

Are you a resilient, adaptable, and empathetic individual looking to make a dual impact in a school setting? Blackpool Secondary Academy is seeking a Cover & Pastoral Support Officer to join our team immediately.

This unique hybrid role is designed for someone who thrives on variety. You will bridge the gap between the classroom and student well-being, ensuring that learning never stops when a teacher is absent, while providing vital pastoral intervention to help our students succeed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Classroom Cover & Learning Support

  • Lead classroom sessions across various subjects when permanent staff are unavailable, ensuring students remain on task and engaged.

  • Maintain a calm, productive learning environment by implementing the school's behaviour policy.

  • Deliver pre-planned lesson materials and provide assistance to students with their work.

2. Pastoral Care & Student Well-being

  • Act as a key point of contact for students requiring emotional or behavioural support throughout the day.

  • Work closely with the Pastoral Lead to monitor attendance, punctuality, and student welfare.

  • Facilitate small-group interventions or 1:1 "check-ins" to help students overcome barriers to learning.

  • Support the reintegration of students back into the classroom following periods of absence or exclusion.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience working with young people (Secondary age) in an educational, coaching, or youth-work capacity.

  • Resilience: The ability to handle challenging behaviour with a calm, firm, and fair approach.

  • Adaptability: Someone who can pivot from leading a history lesson to supporting a student in distress at a moment's notice.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.

  • Commitment: Available for an urgent start and committed to the role until July 2026.

Why Join Blackpool Secondary Academy?

  • A Supportive Environment: You won't be doing this alone; you'll be part of a robust pastoral and academic team.

  • Community Impact: Help shape the lives of young people in Blackpool during a critical stage of their education.

  • Professional Development: Gain invaluable experience in both classroom management and student welfare perfect for those considering a future in teaching or social work.
