HR & Administration Officer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive HR & Administration Officer to provide essential administrative and HR support within a busy and dynamic school environment. This is a varied role requiring excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of HR processes, maintaining accurate staff records, supporting recruitment, and contributing to safeguarding compliance.


Key Responsibilities

HR Administration

  • Maintain and update the Single Central Record (SCR), ensuring compliance at all times
  • Manage staff records using Arbor (Staff Information System)
  • Process new starters, leavers, and staff changes, including contracts and documentation
  • Coordinate safeguarding training for all staff and follow up on completion
  • Maintain accurate personnel files and staff lists

General Administration

  • Provide administrative support including filing, data entry, and report preparation
  • Manage HR and staff absence email inboxes
  • Take meeting notes and produce accurate documentation
  • Raise purchase orders and liaise with internal departments

Sickness & Absence Management

  • Monitor daily staff absence reports
  • Issue and track return-to-work and self-certification forms
  • Update absence records and produce reports
  • Escalate concerns to senior leadership where appropriate

Training & Development (CPD)

  • Coordinate and book staff training
  • Liaise with training providers and the finance team
  • Maintain accurate training records and produce reports

Performance Management

  • Track and record performance management processes
  • Support the administration of appraisal cycles
  • Follow up with managers to ensure timely completion

Recruitment Support

  • Liaise with agencies to advertise vacancies
  • Arrange interviews and trial days
  • Support pre-employment checks in line with safer recruitment practices
  • Assist with interview days and candidate coordination

  • Experience with databases or HR systems (desirable)
