As a Primary School Teacher, you will need to be an enthusiastic individual who has a love of working with children and a passion for making a difference. You’ll be working with children from 5 years old to 11 years old, and will have the chance to specialise and develop a unique skill set. You will need to ensure your students are learning, but also that they are safe and happy. You will play a key role in a chapter of their lives which they will go on to remember forever. You will be creating exciting new lesson plans each day, making learning as fun and interesting as possible.

  • Keep up to date with marking books and any other paperwork
  • Monitor, report on, and communicate each child’s progress to their parents
  • Participate in Staff Meetings and prepare for Ofsted inspections

Qualifications to become a Teacher


To become a Primary School Teacher, you will need to have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), and there are many different pathways to achieving this. There are a range of graduate and postgraduate pathways, as well as employment-based school training programmes. One particularly popular option is to take the Teach First Programme, however, you will need a 2:1 or better in an applicable subject area and GCSE grades C or above in all core subjects.


Further job requirements for a Primary School Teacher

  • Grade A*-C in Maths, English and Science GCSE Qualifications
  • You must have worked with children in some capacity (you will gain work experience as part of your qualification)
  • Be able to pass simple numeracy and literacy skills tests
  • You will be Disclosure, and Barring Service checked (DBS check)
