The role of a Primary School Teacher means you can either teach Key Stage 1 (aged five to seven) or Key Stage 2 (aged seven to eleven). As a Primary School Teacher, you will

  • Motivate pupils daily with creative lesson plans
  • Mark students’ homework and workbooks
  • Attend parents’ evenings and write reports
  • Attend teacher training days and meetings
  • Coordinate activities including extracurricular activities

Qualifications to become a Teacher


To become a Primary School Teacher you will need to have QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). There are a few ways to obtain this. Studying an Undergraduate Course in Education automatically gains you QTS. You can also complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, or any of these four postgraduate courses: the Registered Teacher Programme (RTP), School-centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT), the Graduate Teacher Programme, or Overseas Teacher Training Programme (OTTP).


Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 GSCE’s graded from A* to C, as well as A’ Levels or equivalent
  • Pass a literacy and numeracy test as part of your training
  • Have work experience within a Primary School working with children as part of your training
  • Valid DBS check as well as other necessary vetting and background checks.
