This Blackburn School is seeking a dedicated and proactive School Reception & Admissions Officer to join our busy administrative team in Blackburn. This pivotal role is central to the smooth running of our school, providing a welcoming face and efficient support to students, parents, staff, and visitors, while expertly managing our admissions process. This is a full time 52 week role.

About the Role: This is a dynamic and varied role combining front-of-house reception duties with key responsibilities in student admissions. You will be instrumental in ensuring a positive experience for all who interact with our school. Key responsibilities include:

Reception Duties:

  • Being the welcoming first point of contact for all visitors, parents, students, and staff, both in person and via phone/email.

  • Managing the main school reception area, ensuring it is tidy, professional, and well-resourced.

  • Handling incoming calls, enquiries, and correspondence efficiently and courteously, directing them to the appropriate person or department.

  • Maintaining accurate visitor logs and ensuring adherence to safeguarding procedures (e.g., DBS checks, visitor passes).

  • Managing incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.

  • Providing general administrative support to the school office as required, including photocopying, filing, and data entry.

  • Assisting with the organisation of school events and meetings.

Admissions Duties:

  • Managing the end-to-end admissions process for prospective students, from initial enquiry through to enrolment.

  • Providing comprehensive and accurate information to prospective parents and students about the school's admissions procedures, policies, and curriculum.

  • Organising and facilitating school tours, open days, and admissions events.

  • Processing application forms, collating necessary documentation, and maintaining accurate admissions records (often using a School Information Management System - SIMS/Arbor/Bromcom etc.).

  • Liaising with feeder schools to obtain student information and references.

  • Coordinating assessment days or interview schedules for prospective students.

  • Communicating effectively with parents throughout the admissions journey, providing a high level of customer service and support.

  • Producing reports and data related to admissions statistics.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven Experience: Significant administrative experience, ideally within a school environment or a role involving a high level of customer service and data management.

  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Clear, professional, and empathetic communication, both written and verbal, with diverse audiences.

  • Highly Organised & Meticulous: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.

  • IT Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with a School Information Management System (e.g., SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom) is highly desirable.

  • Customer Service Focus: A genuinely helpful and welcoming approach, dedicated to providing an excellent experience for all stakeholders.

  • Discretion & Confidentiality: Understanding and adherence to data protection (GDPR) and confidentiality requirements, particularly regarding sensitive student and family information.

  • Safeguarding Commitment: A strong understanding of and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. (Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check).

  • Proactive & Adaptable: Ability to work on own initiative, anticipate needs, and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively and positively with colleagues.

Location: Blackburn, Lancashire

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM + INSET days / All Year Round.

Salary: £28,000 FT
