Our innovative Alternative Provision in Blackpool is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Full-Time Teaching Assistant & Bus Driver to join our dedicated team, starting in September 2025.
About Our Alternative Provision:
We provide a specialist, pupil-centred education for young people in Blackpool who require an alternative approach to mainstream schooling. Our focus is on building confidence, developing essential skills, and creating an inclusive environment where every pupil can flourish.
The Role: Teaching Assistant (TA) Responsibilities:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a positive and effective learning experience. Your responsibilities will include:
In-Class Support: Providing direct support to pupils, individually and in small groups, to help them access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
Behaviour Management: Assisting in the implementation of tailored behaviour management strategies to promote a calm and productive learning environment.
Resource Preparation: Helping to prepare engaging learning materials and maintain an organised and stimulating classroom.
Pupil Engagement: Encouraging active participation and fostering a sense of belonging and achievement for all pupils.
Pastoral Care: Offering emotional and social support, acting as a trusted adult and advocate for our pupils' well-being.
Recording Progress: Contributing to the monitoring and recording of pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers.
Safeguarding: Upholding our rigorous safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of all pupils.
The Role: Bus Driver Responsibilities:
Your driving duties will involve safely transporting pupils to and from our provision in Blackpool, and potentially to off-site activities or educational visits. This includes:
Safe Transportation: Operating a school minibus (typically 9-16 seater) safely and efficiently along designated routes.
Route Adherence: Following planned routes and timetables, ensuring punctual pick-ups and drop-offs.
Vehicle Checks: Conducting daily safety checks of the vehicle, ensuring it is roadworthy, clean, and has sufficient fuel.
Pupil Welfare during Transit: Ensuring the safety and appropriate behaviour of pupils during journeys.
Reporting: Reporting any incidents, delays, or concerns regarding the vehicle or pupil behaviour to the relevant school staff.
Vehicle Maintenance: Keeping the bus clean and tidy, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
What We're Looking For:
Qualified/Unqualified Teaching Assistant: Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within an alternative provision, SEN, or mainstream setting with challenging behaviours. Relevant TA qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) is highly desirable.
Valid Driving Licence:
Essential: Full UK Driving Licence with Category D1 (minibus) or Category D (PCV/Bus) entitlement.
Experience driving minibuses or similar vehicles is a strong advantage.
Experience with Challenging Behaviour: Proven ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours effectively and with empathy.
Adaptability & Patience: A calm, patient, and flexible approach, able to respond positively to varied situations and individual pupil needs.
Reliability & Punctuality: Highly dependable, with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality for both roles.
Safeguarding Commitment: A thorough understanding and unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Enhanced DBS Check: Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check upon successful application.
