Our innovative Alternative Provision in Blackpool is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join our compassionate team, starting in September 2025.

About Our Alternative Provision:

We are a specialist, pupil-centred educational provision located in Blackpool, committed to providing a high-quality, inclusive learning experience for young people who require an alternative approach to mainstream education. We focus on fostering academic progress, developing essential life skills, building confidence, and promoting positive well-being through small group sizes, flexible learning strategies, and a truly dedicated staff.

The Role: Full-Time Teaching Assistant

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be an invaluable member of our team, working directly with pupils and collaborating with teachers and other professionals to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment. Your role will be pivotal in helping our pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their personal best.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual & Group Support: Provide targeted academic and pastoral support to pupils, both individually and in small groups, to help them access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.

  • Behaviour Management: Implement and support positive behaviour management strategies, promoting a calm, safe, and respectful learning atmosphere.

  • Resource Preparation: Assist teachers in preparing engaging and differentiated learning materials and maintaining an organised and stimulating classroom environment.

  • Pupil Engagement: Actively encourage pupil participation, build rapport, and foster a sense of belonging and enthusiasm for learning.

  • Pastoral Care: Offer empathetic emotional and social support, acting as a trusted adult and advocating for pupils' well-being and confidence.

  • Monitoring Progress: Contribute to the observation, monitoring, and recording of pupil progress, providing valuable feedback to teachers.

  • Collaborative Working: Work effectively and professionally as part of a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and support staff, to ensure holistic support for each pupil.

  • Safeguarding: Uphold our rigorous safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of all pupils at all times.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within an alternative provision, SEN (Special Educational Needs), or a mainstream setting with pupils who present challenging behaviours.

  • Relevant Qualification: A Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) is highly desirable, or demonstrable experience and a commitment to undertaking relevant training.

  • Understanding & Empathy: A genuine understanding of the challenges faced by young people in alternative provisions and an empathetic, patient, and resilient approach.

  • Behaviour Management Skills: Proven ability to apply effective de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour support strategies.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong rapport with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers.

  • Proactive & Resourceful: A self-starter who can take initiative, identify needs, and find creative solutions.

  • Reliability & Punctuality: Highly dependable, with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality.

  • Safeguarding Commitment: A thorough understanding and unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Enhanced DBS Check: Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check upon successful application.
