Do you have experience supporting children with complex learning needs?


Are you confident in providing personal care, using hoists, and working with children with physical disabilities, speech and language difficulties, and sensory needs?

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school or unit in Stockport. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who require high levels of care, support, and communication assistance in their learning journey.

About the Role:

You'll be part of a supportive and dedicated team, working with pupils who have a wide range of additional needs, including:

  • Physical disabilities requiring mobility support and manual handling

  • Personal care needs, including toileting and hygiene

  • Use of hoisting equipment (training essential)

  • Communication needs, including PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices

  • Speech and language difficulties and development delays

  • Sensory processing needs (visual, auditory, tactile sensitivities)

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience supporting children with complex and multiple learning needs

  • Confidence with personal care and manual handling procedures

  • Hoist training (or willingness to be trained)

  • Familiarity with PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems

  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive, hands-on approach

  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
