Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Scunthorpe
Supporting Children & Young People with Autism, Learning Disabilities and Complex Needs (Ages 5-19)

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant ready to take the next step in your career? Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support children and young people aged 5-19 with autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs in the Scunthorpe area.

About the Role

As a HLTA, you will:

  • Lead and deliver planned lessons or learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.

  • Provide specialist 1:1 and small group support for students with diverse and complex needs.

  • Adapt learning materials and approaches to suit individual learning styles and abilities.

  • Support pupils' social, emotional, and communication development.

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure a joined-up approach to learning and care.

  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging school environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status or has equivalent experience leading learning activities.

  • Has experience working with children and young people with autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs.

  • Brings patience, empathy, and resilience to every situation.

  • Can use initiative to support learning and manage behaviour effectively.

  • Holds (or is willing to apply for) a valid DBS on the Update Service.

Additional training in areas such as Autism Awareness, Team Teach, Makaton, or PECS would be advantageous, though not essential.
