Job Description

Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant - North Lincolnshire

Make a Real Difference Where It Matters Most

Are you someone who sees beyond behaviour and into the heart of a young person? Are you calm under pressure, resilient, and ready to be a positive influence in the lives of students who need it most?

We are seeking a committed Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work one-to-one with students in Key Stage 3 and 4 across Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and Alternative Provisions in North Lincolnshire . If you're passionate about helping young people overcome social, emotional, and behavioural barriers to learning, this could be your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Behaviour Support TA, you'll play a key role in the lives of pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, many of whom face significant challenges around regulation, anxiety, trauma, and behaviour.

You will:

  • Provide 1:1 Behaviour Mentoring
Support students with complex needs, using de-escalation strategies, positive reinforcement, and structured routines to help them engage with learning.

  • Build Trusting Relationships
Become a reliable, safe adult who students can count on-someone who sees potential where others might see problems.

  • Develop Tailored Interventions
Contribute to the creation and delivery of behaviour support plans, personalised strategies, and routines that meet individual student needs.

  • Promote Emotional Literacy
Help students identify and express their emotions, reduce anxiety, and build coping mechanisms using restorative and therapeutic approaches.

  • Champion Safeguarding
Always prioritise student wellbeing. Follow safeguarding procedures, report concerns promptly, and adhere to KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education) guidelines.

  • Collaborate with Colleagues
Work closely with class teachers, SENDCOs, pastoral teams, and external agencies to ensure joined-up support for each young person.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for individuals who are:

  • Resilient and emotionally intelligent

  • Committed to inclusion and equality

  • Experienced in working with young people who present with SEMH or behavioural needs

  • Able to maintain consistent boundaries and expectations

  • Capable of remaining calm, patient, and compassionate under pressure

Essential Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Experience working in PRUs, Alternative Provisions, or mainstream settings with pupils requiring behaviour support

  • Strong knowledge of SEMH, behaviour management strategies, and trauma-informed practice

  • Excellent communication, listening, and teamwork skills

  • The ability to de-escalate challenging situations using non-confrontational techniques

  • A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Desirable (But Not Essential)

  • Qualifications in Youth Work, Counselling, Psychology, Mental Health, or Education Support

  • Team Teach, MAPA, or similar positive handling training

  • Experience in mentoring roles or working within a multi-agency support network

This Role is Perfect If You:

  • Are a former youth worker, mentor, pastoral assistant, or behaviour TA looking to take your next step

  • Want to make a difference for pupils who may feel excluded or disengaged from mainstream education

  • Believe every child deserves compassion, consistency, and a second (or third) chance

  • Can handle tough days-and still show up the next day with patience, empathy, and drive

  • Want a role that is as challenging as it is meaningful and rewarding

What We Offer

  • A supportive team environment where your contribution is genuinely valued

  • Ongoing CPD opportunities including behaviour management and SEMH training

  • The chance to be part of a school community that transforms lives through compassion, structure, and high expectations
