Job Description
Flexible SEN Teaching Assistant Opportunities with Tradewind Recruitment!
At Tradewind Recruitment, we're passionate about connecting caring, skilled professionals with the schools and settings where they can make a genuine difference. We understand that flexibility is key, which is why we offer roles that work around you - whether you're looking for part-time, ad-hoc, or short-term assignments.
We're currently recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for specialist SEN schools and provisions in Weston-Super-Mare, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs. The students are typically aged 4-19 and may present with autism, communication differences, sensory processing needs, learning difficulties, and SEMH-related challenges. These are flexible roles, not a full-time long-term post, making it perfect for those who want variety and balance.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in this type of setting, your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 or small group support
- Assisting pupils with communication, focus and self-regulation
- Helping students access learning tailored to their cognitive level
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and confidence-building
- Working collaboratively with teachers and therapists to meet individual needs
- Contributing to a calm, structured and nurturing environment
Pupils in this environment respond best to patience, empathy and consistency, so a gentle yet confident approach is essential.
You'll be a great fit if you:
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEN (in schools, care or youth settings)
- Can adapt your approach depending on needs and ability levels
- Are comfortable working with communication differences, autism and sensory needs
- Can build trusting relationships and provide emotional reassurance
- Are seeking flexible, part-time or short-term work rather than a long-term post
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 in education, psychology, childcare or similar) are welcomed but not essential with the right experience.
