Job Description

Join Tradewind Recruitment as a SEN Teaching Assistant in North Wiltshire!

Tradewind Recruitment is built on relationships, not transactions. We work closely with skilled support staff and outstanding specialist provisions to create connections that change lives. Whether you're looking for flexibility or consistency, we match you to roles where you can have a real impact from day one.

We are currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to work across specialist residential and alternative education settings in North Wiltshire. These provisions support pupils aged 7 to 18 with complex social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), autism, learning difficulties, communication differences, adverse childhood experiences and trauma-associated behaviours.

These SEN Teaching Assistant positions offer a mix of full-time, part-time and flexible supply opportunities, making them ideal for those who want rewarding work without long-term commitment.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
  • Help learners regulate emotions and re-engage positively with education
  • Assist with communication, sensory and behavioural needs
  • Support teachers with structured learning and routine-based environments
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma or exclusion
  • Contribute to safe, nurturing and therapeutic classrooms

You may work within specialist secondary SEMH settings, residential education environments or trauma-informed alternative provisions across North Wiltshire and nearby areas.

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH or challenging behaviour
  • Come from a background in education, youth work, mentoring, care or similar
  • Are resilient, calm, patient and consistent in your approach
  • Can adapt to pupils with communication and sensory processing differences
  • Are confident working independently or within a specialist pastoral team
  • Hold a DBS on the Update Service (or are willing to apply)

Relevant qualifications are welcomed but not essential if you bring the right attitude and experience.
