Job Description

SEMH Teaching Assistant | Full Time | Gloucestershire

At Tradewind Recruitment, we're proud to work with specialist schools across Gloucestershire that make a real difference to children's lives. We know that supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs takes compassion, consistency and creativity - and that the right Teaching Assistant can change a child's whole experience of education.

We're looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive specialist provision in Gloucestershire. This is a full-time role, ideal for someone patient, nurturing and confident in building positive relationships with children who need extra understanding and care.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and therapists to support pupils who have social, emotional and mental health needs and may also have autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties or communication challenges.

Many of the pupils have experienced trauma or disrupted education and can sometimes present with emotional dysregulation or challenging behaviour. Your role will be to provide calm, consistent support - helping pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people, ideally in an SEMH or SEN setting
  • A patient, empathetic and trauma-informed approach to behaviour and relationships
  • Confidence supporting phonics and early literacy
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent and positive under pressure
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils re-engage with learning
