Job Title: School Caretaker - Immediate Start

We're seeking a full-time Caretaker to join a welcoming secondary school on the Wirral. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented school environment.

About the Role:

As a School Caretaker, you'll play a key role in ensuring the school site is well maintained, secure, and ready to support learning every day. You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of the building, basic repairs, and general site management. The role requires someone proactive, hands-on, and able to work independently as well as part of a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks around the school site

  • Ensure the building and grounds are safe, clean, and secure at all times

  • Open and lock up the premises daily, including managing alarms and security systems

  • Monitor heating, lighting, and energy usage, reporting any issues promptly

  • Support with setting up rooms or equipment for school events and activities

  • Liaise with contractors and report maintenance issues to senior staff

  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed, including risk assessments

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience in a caretaker, site manager, or facilities role (school or similar environment preferred)

  • Practical maintenance or DIY skills

  • A good understanding of health and safety in a school or workplace setting

  • Reliable, organised, and able to work on your own initiative

  • Flexibility to support occasional out-of-hours work when required

  • A valid enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one)

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Relevant trade or maintenance qualifications

  • Experience managing contractors or site health & safety records
