Job Description
Behaviour & Learning Mentor - Gloucestershire
At Tradewind Recruitment, we take a people-first approach. You'll always speak to real consultants who listen, support and genuinely care about finding the right fit for you. We work closely with specialist settings across Gloucestershire and understand exactly what makes a Behaviour & Learning Mentor successful in these environments.
We're currently looking for dedicated Behaviour & Learning Mentors for flexible and temporary work across a range of SEMH schools and alternative learning provisions. These settings cater to primary and secondary aged students, so someone who is flexible and experienced across the age ranges would be highly beneficial.
What To Expect From The Children & Young People
You'll be supporting students who may:
- Display emotional dysregulation, frustration or anxiety
- Struggle with trusting adults and building relationships
- Present with challenging behaviour triggered by past trauma, unmet needs or disrupted education
- Require clear boundaries, consistency and a calm, grounding presence
- Benefit from practical engagement, structured routine and positive role modelling
These pupils can be energetic, unpredictable and, at times, reluctant to engage - but they are also capable, funny, and incredibly rewarding to work with when trust begins to grow.
What You Will Be Expected To Do
As a Behaviour & Learning Mentor, your role will involve:
- Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups to stay engaged in learning
- Offering calm, confident behaviour support during dysregulation or crisis moments
- Building strong, professional relationships through consistency and clear expectations
- Helping pupils develop social skills, resilience and positive routines
- Assisting teachers with learning activities - both academic and practical
- Taking part in outdoor learning, physical activities and hands-on tasks
- Using de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches
- Supporting transitions, unstructured times and movement around school
What We're Looking For
You must have experience in:
- A similar Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor role OR
- Working with young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges or trauma-informed backgrounds
Experience in sports, youth work, mentoring, residential care or alternative education is highly valued.
