Job Description
Are you a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience in mental health support? We are looking for an experienced and proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support to a student with specific needs, including challenges related to mental health and emotional well-being, at our welcoming school in Kirkham. This role requires an immediate start to ensure continuity of care.
The Role: Key Responsibilities
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be crucial in helping a specific student access the curriculum, achieve their learning goals, and maintain their emotional stability.
Individualised Support: Provide dedicated one-to-one support, primarily in KS3 /4 with a pupil on a 1:1 basis.
Emotional & Mental Health Support: Offer consistent emotional check-ins, build a positive rapport, and use calming strategies to manage anxiety or distress.
Learning Access: Adapt and differentiate learning materials under the direction of the class teacher to ensure the student can participate effectively.
Behaviour & Independence: Help manage behaviour, promote independence, and support the student's social and emotional development (SEMH).
Liaison: Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and outside agencies (where applicable) to support the student's holistic well-being.
Record Keeping: Assist with observations, report on the student's progress, and contribute to review meetings (e.g., EHCP reviews).
What You'll Need
We need someone who can integrate quickly and support the student right away, with a focus on empathy and specialised care.
A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) is desirable, or substantial relevant experience.
Proven experience supporting children with mental health challenges (e.g., anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment issues) is highly desirable.
A firm understanding of strategies for supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The ability to remain calm, resilient, and patient in challenging situations.
An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one immediately).
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
