SEN Teaching Assistant - PMLD, ASC & SEMH
Location: Chorley
Days: Monday - Friday (full-time)
Start: As soon as possible
Contract: Long-term (with potential for permanence)
Tradewind Recruitment are looking for a caring, resilient and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming SEN school supporting pupils with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
This is a rewarding role suited to someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers, develop independence and experience success every day.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide tailored support to children with complex needs, including PMLD and ASC
- Support pupils with SEMH needs using patience, empathy and positive behaviour strategies
- Assist with personal care, mobility, sensory activities and communication programs (where required)
- Work 1:1 or within small classes alongside teachers and therapists
- Help create a calm, safe and structured environment
- Use adaptive, nurturing approaches to encourage progress and independence
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and multi-disciplinary teams
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children with SEN (PMLD, ASC, SEMH or similar)
- A calm, patient and compassionate approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A willingness to support personal care and physical needs
- Resilience, adaptability and a positive mindset
- A passion for helping vulnerable children thrive
- A commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
