Job Description

Teach with Impact, Not QTS!

We are searching for an exceptional, resilient, and highly experienced Unqualified Teacher / Specialist Instructor to join our supportive Alternative Provision (AP) team in Barnoldswick, Lancashire. This is a pivotal role dedicated to transforming the outcomes for vulnerable secondary pupils (KS3/KS4) with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

If you possess significant life experience, vocational expertise, and a passion for supporting young people disengaged from mainstream education, we want to hear from you. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is NOT required.

What You Will Do:

  • Deliver Bespoke Learning: Plan and teach engaging, highly differentiated lessons to small groups (or 1:1) in core subjects (e.g., Functional Skills Maths/English) or a vocational/specialist area (e.g., Outdoor Education, Creative Arts).

  • Implement Therapeutic Strategies: Utilise a trauma-informed and restorative approach to manage complex and challenging behaviour, creating a consistent and nurturing learning environment.

  • Mentor and Role Model: Act as the primary key adult, building professional, trusting relationships that enable students to regulate their emotions and re-engage with education.

  • SEND Alignment: Work closely with the SENCO to ensure all teaching aligns with students' individual needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Team Leadership: Direct and guide support staff (Teaching Assistants/TAs) within your setting to maximise student outcomes.

We are Seeking Candidates With:

  • Mandatory Experience: Proven, significant experience in a challenging environment such as Alternative Provision (AP), Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Youth Work, or SEN/SEMH settings.

  • Behaviour Expertise: Expert-level ability in positive behaviour intervention and de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training/experience is highly desirable).

  • A Passion for Inclusion: A non-judgemental, flexible, and utterly reliable commitment to the welfare of vulnerable young people.

Start Date: We are keen to appoint for an immediate start or to secure your position for January 2026.
