Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) - KS1
Location: Islington, London
Contract: Full-Time, Monday - Friday
Start Date: January 2026
Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS1 child with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to ensure the child's emotional wellbeing, engagement, and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide daily 1:1 support for a KS1 child with SEMH needs.
Assist with planning and delivering tailored learning activities.
Support the child's emotional regulation and social skills development.
Monitor and record progress, reporting to class teachers and SENCO.
Implement strategies recommended by specialists and the school's SEMH provision.
Maintain positive communication with parents and staff.
Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEMH and/or SEN in KS1.
Ability to manage challenging behaviour with patience and empathy.
Understanding of child development and differentiation strategies.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or SEN support (e.g., Level 3 TA/SEN).
