Science Technician - Northumberland!
Are you a Science Technician looking for a rewarding, long-term opportunity within a secondary school environment? We have an exciting openings across Northumberland starting ASAP or from January 2026!
About the Role
As a crucial member of the Science department, you'll be responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient running of practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
This is an opportunity that could lead into a permanent position or long term on a supply basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparation: Preparing, setting up, and testing apparatus and materials for practical lessons and demonstrations, ranging from Key Stage 3 to A-Level.
Safety & Compliance: Ensuring all equipment is maintained, stored correctly, and checked for safety. Adhering strictly to COSHH regulations and health and safety guidelines.
Resource Management: Managing stock levels, ordering new equipment and chemicals, and maintaining an up-to-date inventory.
Support: Providing in-class assistance to teachers and students during practical work.
Maintenance: Undertaking minor repairs of equipment and general upkeep of the prep room and laboratories.
What We're Looking For:
Experience: Previous experience working as a Science Technician in an educational setting (secondary school experience is highly desirable).
Knowledge: A solid understanding of laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and the practical requirements across the three sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
Qualifications: Relevant scientific qualification (e.g: A-Levels, Degree, or equivalent technical qualification).
Skills: Excellent organisational and time management skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude.
Safeguarding: A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the update service (or willing to apply for one)
