We are workinhg with a vibrant and caring special school in Scunthorpe dedicated to supporting children and young people aged 3-19 with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), severe/profound and multiple learning disabilities (SLD/PMLD), and complex needs. The Role We are looking for compassionate, resilient, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our friendly team. You will work closely with class teachers and therapists to support pupils with their learning, communication, personal care, and sensory needs, helping them to engage fully in school life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, moving & handling, and sensory regulation as required
  • Implement individual education, health, and care plans (EHCPs)
  • Use a range of communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, AAC devices, intensive interaction, etc.)
  • Support positive behaviour using low-arousal, trauma-informed approaches (e.g., Team Teach or similar)
  • Contribute to a fun, stimulating, and safe learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists (SALT, OT, physio), and families

About You Essential:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (particularly autism and complex needs) - in a school, care, or family setting
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach - even on challenging days
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable:

  • Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning (or equivalent) qualification
  • Training in Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, Attention Autism, or intensive interaction
  • Moving & handling training
  • Full UK driving licence (beneficial - some pupils access community activities)
