Teaching Assistant - Pastoral & SEMH Support (Primary School) | January 2026 Start

Location: Blackburn
Contract: Fixed Term (initially)
Hours: 8:45am - 3:30pm (with occasional extended hours for meetings)
Salary: £350-£450 per week (dependent on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting children's mental health and wellbeing in a mainstream primary school setting? A highly regarded Primary School in Blackburn is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant with strong pastoral experience to join their team in January 2026.

This newly created role focuses on providing SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) support to pupils across the school. The leadership team is committed to promoting positive mental health and inclusion, ensuring every child receives the care they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group SEMH interventions
  • Collaborate with class teachers and the SENCO on individual pupil needs
  • Support wellbeing strategies in classrooms and intervention spaces
  • Liaise with external agencies where necessary
  • Contribute ideas to enhance pastoral provision

What We're Looking For:

  • Degree-level qualification (Psychology preferred)
  • Experience supporting children or vulnerable individuals, ideally with SEMH needs
  • Strong relationship-building skills with pupils and families
  • Resilience, flexibility, and commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
