Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH secondary school based in the Birkenhead area.
About the Role
This is a full-time position working closely with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role will primarily involve providing 1:1 support for a student, helping them engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies. You will also provide general support across the classroom, contributing to a safe and structured learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 support to a student with SEMH needs, following individual plans and guidance from teaching staff
Support classroom activities, learning tasks and behaviour management
Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff
Promote emotional wellbeing, communication and independence
Assist with de-escalation and safeguarding where required
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and support staff
Requirements:
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
A patient, calm and empathetic approach
Strong communication and behaviour management skills
Ability to build rapport and encourage positive outcomes
A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
