SEMH Teaching Assistant - Full-Time

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH secondary school based in the Birkenhead area.

About the Role
This is a full-time position working closely with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role will primarily involve providing 1:1 support for a student, helping them engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies. You will also provide general support across the classroom, contributing to a safe and structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a student with SEMH needs, following individual plans and guidance from teaching staff

  • Support classroom activities, learning tasks and behaviour management

  • Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff

  • Promote emotional wellbeing, communication and independence

  • Assist with de-escalation and safeguarding where required

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and support staff

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs

  • A patient, calm and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Ability to build rapport and encourage positive outcomes

  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
