Cover Supervisor
Location: Washington
Contract: Full-time
Key Stages: KS3-KS4
Start Date: ASAP

Secondary schools across Washington are seeking confident, adaptable, and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support teaching and learning on a full-time basis starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain school-based experience, develop strong classroom skills, or take the first step toward a career in teaching.

Role Responsibilities

* Supervise classes in the absence of the classroom teacher, ensuring students remain on task with pre-set work.
* Manage classroom behaviour effectively, creating a positive, calm, and productive learning environment.
* Support students with their learning where appropriate, encouraging engagement, confidence, and independence.
* Follow school policies and procedures, including behaviour management and safeguarding requirements.
* Provide clear instructions, answer basic questions, and deliver learning activities set by teaching staff.
* Contribute to the wider school community when needed, including break duties or basic administrative tasks.

Requirements

* Previous experience working with young people is desirable (e.g., youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, support roles).
* Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
* Confidence delivering instructions and leading groups of students.
* A positive, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting learners.
* A genuine interest in education and helping students succeed.
* A valid DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one.
