Job Description

Location: Secondary Schools across Lancashire (Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn, Burnley, and Lancaster)

Contract: Full-time, Long-term & Permanent opportunities available

Hours: 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday (No nights, no weekends!)

The Role: A Strategic Career Move

Are you a Prison Officer (HMP) or YOI Officer looking for a career that utilizes your specialised skillset but offers a better work-life balance and a more positive environment?

Tradewind Recruitment is looking for resilient, high-caliber individuals to transition into Behaviour & Inclusion roles within Lancashire's secondary schools. We have found that ex-HMP personnel are exceptionally well-suited to school life; you possess the "presence," the de-escalation skills, and the mental toughness that traditional education backgrounds sometimes lack.

How Your HMP Skills Translate to Schools

Secondary schools in Lancashire need staff who can manage challenging behavior with a "firm but fair" approach. Your background is a direct match for:

  • You can read a room and spot a "flare-up" before it happens.

  • You are an expert in "talking people down" and managing conflict without escalation.

  • You understand the importance of being a role model while maintaining strict professional distance.

  • You are calm under pressure and can provide clear, concise reporting on serious incidents.

Your Responsibilities

  • The "Inclusion Hub": Managing students who have been removed from lessons, ensuring they remain productive and reflective.

  • Corridor & Gate Presence: Providing a visible, authoritative presence during high-traffic times (breaks and lunches).

  • Direct Mentoring: Working 1:1 with "at-risk" students to break the cycle of negative behaviour and prevent exclusion.

  • Rehabilitative Support: Using restorative justice techniques to resolve conflicts between pupils or staff.

The Benefits of Moving to Education

  • Predictable Routine: No more 12-hour shifts or erratic rotas. Work the same hours as your kids.

  • School Holidays: Enjoy 13 weeks of holiday a year.

  • Career Path: Many of our ex-HMP candidates move quickly into Head of Year or Safeguarding Lead positions.

What We Need From You

  • Experience: A proven track record in the HMP Service, YOI, or similar secure environments.

  • Character: You must be unshockable, empathetic, and committed to helping young people change their trajectory.

  • DBS: A willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check (we facilitate this process).

  • Reliability: Schools need the same consistency and discipline you are used to providing in the service.
