Behaviour Mentor - KS1

Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm

Tradewind Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Camden, well known for its outstanding SEN provision. The school is currently seeking a committed and resilient Behaviour Mentor Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist Year 2 provision for children with complex Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

This is a highly rewarding long-term role, ideal for a Behaviour Mentor who is passionate about supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and holistic child development through consistent, trauma-informed, and child-centred practice.


The Role: Behaviour Mentor Teaching Assistant

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils with ASD and complex behavioural needs within a specialist Year 2 setting

  • Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social communication

  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and personalised intervention plans

  • Supporting children during periods of dysregulation using calm, consistent, and nurturing approaches

  • Delivering structured activities, including sensory regulation, play-based learning, and social skills development

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider SEN team

  • Supporting the use of PECS, visual timetables, Attention Autism, and other evidence-based strategies


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting children with ASD, SEMH, or complex needs

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • The ability to remain composed under pressure

  • Excellent communication and oracy skills

  • A nurturing, trauma-informed mindset

  • Strong timekeeping skills and the ability to follow structured routines


Desirable Experience:

  • Team Teach or other positive handling training

  • PECS

  • Attention Autism

  • Experience working within specialist or SEN provisions

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or challenging behaviour


Compliance Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Two professional references covering the last two years

  • Full employment history with explanations for any gaps

  • Proof of address
