  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and rebuild confidence

  • Working closely with safeguarding, SEN and senior leadership teams

  • Supporting attendance, punctuality and behaviour improvement plans

  • Being a calm, steady presence in moments of crisis

The young people need someone who:

  • Is firm, fair and emotionally intelligent

  • Doesn't take behaviour personally

  • Can build trust without lowering standards

  • Understands SEMH, trauma-informed practice or challenging environments

  • Brings resilience, humour and patience in equal measure

Ideal backgrounds:

  • Youth work

  • Behaviour mentoring

  • Psychology or criminology graduates

  • Support work

  • PRU or alternative provision experience

  • Sports coaching with mentoring experience

Why Barking & Dagenham?

What you gain:

  • Real safeguarding and multi-agency exposure

  • Experience highly valued in social work, counselling, education or youth justice careers

  • The opportunity to make measurable impact - not just tick boxes
