I am currently working in partnership with a welcoming and well-resourced Primary SEND school in Barnet that is looking to recruit committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with a range of additional needs in a nurturing and specialist setting.

About the School
This specialist primary provision supports pupils aged 4-11 with a variety of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition, speech and language difficulties, moderate learning difficulties and associated sensory needs. The school prides itself on its child-centred approach, structured routines and strong emphasis on communication and emotional development.

The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, therapists and the wider support team to ensure pupils receive tailored support both academically and socially. You may be supporting children on a 1:1 basis or within small groups.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individualised support to pupils with SEND

  • Assisting with the delivery of personalised learning programmes

  • Supporting communication development, including the use of visual aids and alternative communication systems

  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Supporting pupils with sensory needs and daily routines

  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience working with children with SEND, ideally within a primary setting

  • Has a strong understanding of Autism and associated needs

  • Is patient, nurturing and adaptable

  • Demonstrates good communication and teamwork skills

  • Is committed to supporting children's academic, social and emotional development

  • Holds relevant training (such as Team Teach, PECS, Makaton or safeguarding) - desirable but not essential
