Design Technology Technician

Tradewind Recruitment are recruiting for a full time or part time (at least Monday to Wednesday) Design Technology Technician to work at an exceptional private school situated just outside of York. This position is to start 13th April and will last until the 19th of June when the school closes for summer. Payment for this position will be between £100 and £130 per day Working hours for the school are 8:10 - 4:30PM.

The School is situated just outside of York, and most easily accessible via car as public transport options are limited due to the rural location. The school has excellent facilities in their creative arts and are looking for a passionate practitioner who can support students learning within DT. Any relevant background in art or design will be considered for this role.

The Role: Your duties will include:

Prepare and set up tools, equipment, and materials for practical Design Technology lessons.

Assist teaching staff in the preparation and organisation of classroom activities and demonstrations.

Maintain, clean, and service workshop machinery, tools, and equipment.

Ensure all equipment is stored safely and kept in good working order.

Support students during practical activities by providing technical guidance when required.

Monitor and maintain stock levels of materials and components and order replacements when necessary.

Carry out routine safety checks on machinery and equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Ensure the workshop and preparation areas are clean, organised, and safe for use.

Prepare materials such as wood, plastics, metals, and electronic components for lessons.

Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, risk assessments, and stock inventory.

Dispose of waste materials safely and in line with school policies.

Support the implementation of health and safety procedures, including COSHH and risk assessments.

Assist in the maintenance of specialist equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, or CAD/CAM systems where applicable.

Provide technical support for school projects, exhibitions, or extracurricular design and technology clubs.

Tradewind will also support your development during your placement and beyond through our fantastic CPD via The National College. You will be put onto all of the same CPD as permanent staff members, and encouraged to grow.

To join us and be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Has experience supporting in a similar role
  • Has a relevant qualification in Design Technology
  • Have experience working within schools in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks
  • CV must cover the full CV History
  • Legal right to work in the UK
