Site Caretaker - Full-Time Position (Start After Easter)

Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Salary: £23,000 - £33,000+ per year (depending on experience)
Start Date: 7th April 2026

A small and supportive alternative provision school in Hatfield is seeking a dependable and hands-on Site Caretaker to join the team following the Easter break. The successful candidate will begin with a one-week paid handover during the holidays to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

This is a full-time position, with the option of split shifts across the day. While you will not be required to remain on site continuously throughout the day, the role is essential in maintaining the safety, security, and upkeep of the school premises.

There is also the potential for the position to become permanent in the next academic year for the right candidate.

Key Duties

  • Opening the school site each morning from approximately 7:30am

  • Securing the premises at the end of the school day

  • Ensuring the building and grounds remain safe and secure at all times

  • Carrying out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs when required

  • Helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff and students

  • Monitoring the condition and security of the site and reporting any issues

  • Assisting with routine health and safety checks

About You

  • Reliable, organised, and punctual

  • Comfortable carrying out basic maintenance, DIY, and practical tasks

  • Able to work independently and manage day-to-day responsibilities

  • Friendly and professional with good communication skills

  • Flexible and willing to work split shifts if required

  • A full driving licence is desirable due to occasional travel between locations
