Job Description

Learning Support Worker - Specialist Provision
North Bristol
Long-Term & Flexible Supply Opportunities!

Are you passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of young people who need it most? We are currently recruiting dedicated and resilient Learning Support Workers to work within a specialist setting supporting both primary and secondary-aged pupils.

This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a nurturing and highly supportive environment where every child is understood as an individual, and every small step forward is celebrated.

About the Setting
This specialist provision is built around a trauma-informed, child-centred ethos, placing strong emphasis on relationships, consistency and emotional wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to create a safe, structured and predictable environment where pupils feel secure enough to engage in learning.

The approach focuses on:

  • Building trust and positive relationships
  • Understanding behaviour as communication
  • Supporting emotional regulation and social development
  • Delivering a personalised and flexible curriculum

The Pupils
You will be supporting children and young people across primary and secondary age ranges, all of whom have a range of additional needs and often complex backgrounds.

Pupils may:

  • Have SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
  • Have diagnoses such as ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) and/or ADHD
  • Display behaviours that can be challenging, including dysregulation, verbal outbursts, or disengagement
  • Have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), or disrupted education
  • Be working below age-related expectations academically

Strong, consistent support and a calm, empathetic approach are key to helping these pupils succeed.

The Role
As a Learning Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
  • Help pupils access learning both inside and outside the classroom
  • Support behaviour through de-escalation and positive strategies
  • Build meaningful relationships that promote trust and engagement
  • Work closely with teaching staff and wider professionals

What We're Looking For
Working with children and young people can be both challenging and rewarding!
A good sense of humour and open mindset are really valuable. You will also need:

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs (education, youth/social work, or similar)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment

Opportunities Available

  • Full-time, long-term roles for those seeking consistency and career progression
  • Flexible supply work to suit those looking for varied experience or work-life balance
  • Potential for roles to become permanent for the right candidates
