The Opportunity
Are you a resilient, empathetic, and dedicated support professional looking to make a genuine impact in a specialist setting? A leading SEMH School in Blackburn is seeking a specialist 1:1 Support Assistant to work exclusively with a Year 10 pupil.
This is a vital role focused on building a consistent, trusting relationship with a student during their critical GCSE years. The school is looking for someone who wants to grow with them, offering this role on a temp-to-perm basis to ensure the right fit for both you and the pupil.
Key Responsibilities
1:1 Mentorship: Provide dedicated emotional and academic support to a Year 10 pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
De-escalation: Use positive behaviour management strategies (e.g., Team Teach) to support the pupil through periods of crisis or anxiety.
Academic Engagement: Help the pupil access their GCSE curriculum by breaking down tasks and maintaining focus.
Reporting: Work closely with the SENCO and external agencies to track progress and adjust Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Requirements
Experience: Proven experience working with SEMH, ADHD, or ASC, ideally within a Secondary school or PRU (Pupil Referral Unit).
Resilience: The ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging behaviour with a therapeutic approach.
Commitment: A desire for a long-term career move; we are looking for someone to become a permanent member of this school community.
Qualifications: Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred, but relevant experience in Youth Work or Social Care will be considered.
Why Join This School?
Path to Permanency: A guaranteed transition to a permanent contract for the right candidate.
Professional Development: Access to specialist training in SEMH, trauma-informed practice, and de-escalation.
Supportive Leadership: Join a team that priorities staff wellbeing as much as pupil progress.
Local Impact: Help a young person in the Blackburn community navigate their path to adulthood.
