Mental Health Teaching Assistant - SEMH School

A specialist SEMH school in Corby is seeking a dedicated and resilient Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This full-time, temporary to permanent position offers the opportunity to work in a highly supportive and structured environment, where student wellbeing and personalised support are at the heart of everything.
About the Role
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs, including behavioural challenges, anxiety, trauma, and emotional regulation difficulties
- Support pupils in developing resilience, confidence, and positive coping strategies
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support both their learning and emotional development
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement tailored support plans
- Assist with the delivery of targeted interventions and therapeutic approaches
- Help maintain a calm, structured, and safe learning environment throughout the school day
- Support students during lessons as well as unstructured times such as breaks and transitions
- Monitor and record student progress in line with school and safeguarding procedures
We're Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (school, youth work, care, or similar settings)
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour positively
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Relevant qualifications or training in mental health, psychology, education, or youth work (desirable but not essential)
